Tikinagaan

Anishinaabe women have traditionally placed their babies in a Tikinagaan as a newborn and carried them that way until they were toddlers. Caring for a baby in a Traditional Tikinagaan meant that the baby would grow up a hard worker with impeccable strength, wisdom and patience. Traditional craftspeople handcrafted the Tikinagaan from cedar or ash. Participants learn from women elder knowledge keepers who used the Tikinagaan with their children. Participants will complete the gathering with a family heirloom traditional Tikinagaan and a better understanding of this tradition.
